A Russian driver became a legend earlier this week when he attempted to evade police officers by driving his car straight through the Kazan International Airport. Like something straight out of the Blues Brothers, after being cornered by police near the airport parking lot, the driver used his Lada Samara vehicle to bust through the airport doors. In the video below, he can be seen driving his car past luggage carousels, ticket counters, and more as police and airport security officers chase after him fruitlessly on foot.

The driver, said to be a 40-year-old former special police force officer, was eventually apprehended, but not before causing about $100,000 worth of damage in the airport. Some minor injuries were also reported by the security officers who were trying to mitigate the unusual situation.

RT, a news company funded by the Russian government, alleges that the driver was intoxicated and called his legendary drive a “drug-fueled rampage,” though the basis of their claims is unclear. Authorities did report that the driver had 3.9 grams of marijuana in his car when he was arrested, though marijuana doesn’t typically inspire such intense and energetic escapades.

It’s not clear why the driver was being pursued in the first place, but as a result of his airport drive-through, he was ultimately arrested and has been sentenced to 15 days in administrative detention by Russian authorities. He will later be tried for violating traffic rules, endangerment, and drug trafficking as well, according to Radio Free Europe.
