Ex-CIA Operative Wants an Election Re-Do Amid Reports of Russian Interference

Ex-CIA agent Robert Baer appeared on CNN and wants an election re-do amid reports of Russian interference.

Former CIA operative Robert Baer appeared on CNN Saturday, and called for a review of the election amid news that Russia intervened with the goal of helping Donald Trump win. “It looks like to me, the Russians did interfere in our elections,” Baer said.

On Friday, U.S. intelligence revealed with “high confidence” that Moscow interfered with the election via hackers who obtained private emails form both Republicans and Democrats. While Baer said that we’ll “never be able to decide whether they changed the outcome” of the election, he did stress the importance of considering an election re-do.

“Having worked in the CIA, if we had been caught interfering in European elections, or Asian elections or anywhere in the world, those countries would call for new elections, and any democracy would,” he said.

Trump’s team was quick to dismiss any notion of foreign interference in a statement released Friday, in which they called those calling for an investigation “the same people that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction."

Baer doesn't see it that way, and thinks that the electoral college should have full disclosure regarding Russian interference before the 19th, when they're scheduled to cast their votes.

“I don't know how it would work constitutionally, I'm not a lawyer, but I'm deeply disturbed by the fact that the Russians interfered, and I would like to see the evidence,” Baer said. “If the evidence is there, I don’t see any other way than to vote again as an American citizen.”
