Holiday Spirit Tip

Nothing like a kind gesture to get you in the holiday spirit. A waiter who worked at a diner in Texas was a little down on cash to buy a ticket to visit his family and friends in Ireland, when a complete stranger generously left him a $750 tip that he could use towards his flight.

As you'd imagine, the waiter, Ben Millar said he was astonished when he went to retrieve the bill with such a generous tip. Before he served the check, Millar recalled talking with the customer about his home country and family, whom he hasn't seen in two years. "I jokingly said, 'I wish I could go back that often to see my family,'" he told ABC News. "I thought nothing of it, and we all joked after. The night went on, and I proceeded to give good service and talk to them." It wasn't until after the customers had left that he even noticed anything. "My initial reaction was shouting, 'Holy s**t,'" he exclaimed.

Millar's story quickly went viral after his pregnant girlfriend shared an image of the bill on Facebook on Sunday. The image showed a picture of the $122.87 tab with the $750 tip neatly written under it. "Hopefully this can get you back to Ireland for the holidays," the handwritten note on the receipt read. Millar's girlfriend Taryn Keith said in a brief caption that she wanted to share her boyfriend's experience "to show everyone that's there is not only hate out there." As for what Millar plans to do with the money, he says he will put it towards taking his girlfriend and his son, who is on the way, to visit his family abroad.
