A private Ukrainian company is experimenting with integrating Microsoft's HoloLens technology into military helmets. The HoloLens is a headset that allows the wearer to see, hear, and interact with holograms in an environment, and it may be used in military gear soon.
The Defence Blog reported last week that the company, LimpidArmor, has developed an omnidirectional review system, also called a Circular Review System, for military equipment and has started integrating HoloLens into helmets. According to the Defence Blog, the helmet could ultimately be used for military personnel in armored vehicles, providing a full 360-degree view of the vehicle's environment in real time.
The helmets would essentially allow military personnel to get a full view of everything that is outside their tank, just by using the technology within the helmet.
According to Endgadget, the Circular Review System will also be able to note which soldiers nearby are enemies and which are not. Additionally, it will be able to specify targets and send information to commanders outside of the tank.
Endgadget reports that while the helmets have not yet been tested outside of a lab setting, the Ukranian government has already expressed interest in the technology. Field testing of the helmets may even be done soon, according to Endgadget, especially given the political tension between Ukraine and Russia.
The helmet was first debuted in Kiev in mid-October at the Arms and Security show, according to the Defence Blog.
