In yet another surprise in an election full of them, the Republicans have retained control of the Senate with 51 seats won. Politico is reporting the GOP won several key battleground races. In Wisconsin, Ron Johnson defeated former Democratic Senator Russ Feingold, and in Pennsylvania Pat Toomey narrowly triumphed over Democrat Katie McGinty.

At the beginning of the night, it seemed possible, if not likely, that Democrats would take control of the Senate. But as the night went on, Trump's success mirrored the Senate race. As of press time the GOP holds 51 seats while Democrats has 47. New Hampshire is on track to go to Democrat Maggie Hassan, while Louisiana is scheduled for a runoff election on Dec. 10 as none of the candidates were able to reach the 50 percent marker for the win.
