A 16-year-old high schoolstudent in Utah is in custody after he stabbed five students and himself in a locker room this morning.
According to a statement from the Alpine School District, a 16-year-old student, using a knife with a 3-inch blade, stabbed five students before stabbing himself in the neck. The incident occurred in the boys locker room just before 8 a.m. Tuesday morning as they were getting ready for their morning physical education class at Mountain View High School in Orem, Utah.
The male student is now in custody after he was eventually apprehended by school resource officers, who "risked their lives to box him into a corner" and had to Tase him, according to ABC News.
Fox 13 News reports that the five male victims were stabbed in the neck and upper torso. The victims and the suspect were taken to local hospitals. Their conditions range from fair to critical: three students are in fair condition, one student is in serious condition, and another is in critical condition.
The teenaged suspect is a straight-A student with no record of disciplinary issues, though the sophomore student was new to the high school and had previously been homeschooled, according to ABC News.
The suspect has not been identified, and his motive is unclear at this point.
Orem is about 40 miles south of Salt Lake City. Classes at Mountain View High School have already resumed as usual.
