A mother and her adult son were arrested for incest in North Carolina last week, reported the Daily Mail. The son is married. The arrest follows the news of an Oklahoma woman marrying her biological daughter. The Oklahoma woman had previously been married to her son, but had the marriage annulled.

Melissa 'Missy' Kitchens, 44, and her 25-year-old son Shaun Thomas Pfeiffer were arrested on Sept. 7 and Sept. 8 respectively on incest charges. According to arrest documents, the two had had sex in August.

Kitchens and Pfeiffer were living together in Asheville with Pfeiffer's wife Shannon Roman and the couple's toddler son. It's not known how the incestuous relationship between Kitchens and Pfeiffer began. It's not clear how police found out about the alleged incestuous relationship.

In addition to the incest charge Pfeiffer is facing charges for "indecent liberties with a child, communicating threats and being intoxicated and disruptive," wrote the Daily Mail. Pfeiffer is being held on a $70,500 bail and Kitchens on a $30,000 bail, the Buncombe County Jail website says. The two will separately present themselves in court at the end of the month.

Kitchens and Pfeiffer could face  anywhere from 10 to 41 months in prison for the incest charges. Last month, a New Mexico mother faced jail time after being charged with incest for having a romantic relationship with her 19-year-old son. These relationships have been explained through something called Genetic Sexual Attraction, which a report from The Guardian found is likely to happen in more than half the cases in which parents are reunited with their biological children as adults.
