Georgia police have issued an arrest warrant for one of their officers after discovering she allegedly recently lied about being shot by a black man.

According to WGXA News, Officer Sherry Hall of Jackson City Police was fired Saturday morning; she had previously been on paid administrative leave.

According to CBS 46, Hall originally alleged she was shot at by a black man on Sept. 13. The alleged shooting happened right after midnight during Shelby's patrol when she questioned the man. "At some point, he became argumentative," Jackson Police Chief James Morgan said at the time. "From that point, he pulled out a handgun and fired one round in her direction." Shelby was allegedly shot in the abdomen but was saved because of her bullet-proof vest. She reportedly fired at least two shots back before the suspect, only described as a black man, ran off.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has concluded Hall lied about the incident and planted a shell casing, passing it off as coming from the suspect's gun. To do this, Hall reportedly fired twice into the wood line with her police issued Glock .22. Hall then fired a second police issued gun to plant the shell casing, and defaced the Glock .27. She reportedly didn't tell authorities about the Glock.

CBS 46 reported Hall is accused of "issuing false statements and writings and concealment of facts, tampering with evidence, interfering with government property and violation of oath."

Even more unfortunate is the fact that such incidents are far from unique. In neighboring Alabama, police officers planted drugs and weapons on young black men for years, and prisons guards fabricated a story about being attacked to cover up the dreadlock-ripping beating of an inmate.
