Gunman Shot Dead After Taking Hostages at German Movie Theater

A gunman has been shot and killed after taking hostages at a German movie theater.

A shooting just took place at Viernheim, Germany's Kinopolis movie theater complex. Four shots were fired, but nobody was injured, though several media outlets originally reported that 20 to 50 people were injured from tear gas unleashed by police, according to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. The shooter stormed the theater with a "long gun" wearing a mask and held several people hostage.

As of Thursday morning, the shooter has been shot and killed by police, and the hostages have been freed, according to the German outlet Echo Online.

The police are patrolling the area and are not making speculations on the motivations behind the crime.
