A man from Goodyear, Ariz. has been arrested for killing his family's dog in a smoker over the weekend. Local news stationKMOV reported 42-year-old Patrick Zane Thompson became angry over a shirt his 17-year-old daughter owns and killed their dog in a smoker as "a sacrifice."

KMOC further reported that Thompson was lying on the ground when police arrived to his home on Saturday and that his speech and behavior were erratic. Thompson reportedly said "the devil made him do it" in reference to killing his pet, a white poodle.

Thompson was arrested for assault, animal cruelty, tampering with evidence, and threatening his family. As for the latter charge, KMOV reported Thompson first burned his daughter's shirt (which he had described as Satanic), then said he would need to sacrifice a male: either himself, his 6-year-old son, or the family's dog.

Goodyear police told KMOV Thompson admitted to breaking the dog's neck and strangling him before putting him in the smoker, which Thompson called a "lake of fire." Firefighters arrived to the scene to put out the open flame in the smoker, and officers were then able to find the dead dog inside. Thompson later told police he had smoked marijuana earlier in the day and repeatedly made reference to the Bible.

The state has requested Thompson be held on at least a $100,000 bond, as there are concerns he could be a danger to himself and his family, according to KMOV

The Goodyear Police Department did not immediately respond to Complex's request for comment.
