Wouldn't it be nice if after a night out you could stumble to your freezer, unwrap an icy cold treat, and feel instantly better? Well, listen up because South Korea has developed a popsicle that cures hangovers.
Gyeondyo-bar, which translates to "hang in there," tastes like grapefruit and comes infused with 0.7% organic raisin tree fruit juice, according to Reuters. That ingredient has been known to cure hangovers and has shown up in Korean medicine books dating as far back as the 17th century.
Of course, the cold might help too. Unless we're talking brain freezes on top of hangover headaches because no thank you.
Withme FS, a convenience store chain in South Korea, will stock the product. The company said in a press release obtained by Reuters that the popsicle "expresses the hardships of employees who have to suffer a working day after heavy drinking, as well as to provide comfort to those who have to come to work early after frequent nights of drinking." Preach on, brother.
South Korea has been concocting and selling offbeat hangover cures for some time, largely because its citizens drinks the most alcohol of any country in Asia. They sell everything from drinks to pills to beauty products. While some hangover products have been exported to other Asian countries like Japan, China, and Vietnam, they have yet to make their way to the U.S.
In a previous scientific study, oriental raisin tree fruit extract was shown to stop intoxication in rats, according to New Scientist. Jing Liang, a pharmacologist at UCLA, said Dihydromyricetin (DHM), a component of oriental raisin tree fruit, "will reduce the degree of drunkenness for the amount of alcohol drunk and will definitely reduce the hangover symptoms. In time, it will reduce their desire for alcohol."
So maybe don't have too many popsicles.
